Where are you from and where do you live now?
I grew up in Bavaria in the south of Germany in a small town called Burghausen, next to the Austrian border. After living in Stuttgart, Vienna and New York, I now live in Berlin.
What is the greatest masterpiece of film in your opinion?
Oh, that’s a tough question. I have a few favorites. “Leon – the professional”, and „The Big Blue” are among them, and nearly all films of Wes Anderson, but also “Stand by Me“ and „Ferris Bueller´s Day off”
A highlight in your career?
The great thing about our job is that you get to see places you’ve never imagined to see and to meet people you’ve never imagined to meet. One project of mine combined both of it. I had the honor to shoot with my childhood hero Herbert Grönemeyer in Star City, the top secret soviet cosmonaut training center for a very long time. That was a shoot I will never forget.
What else is your passion?
If your passion is filmmaking there is not much room for other passions. I am very very lucky to have a job that is my passion. And the great thing is that filmmaking involves and includes so many different aspects of live like art, culture and technology. It is more than one passion, but hundreds and never gets boring.
A fun fact about you / Any guilty pleasure?
I grew up in Bavaria but can’t really speak „Bavarian“, I think even my Viennese accent is better than the one from my hometown.
